Pittsburgh Maternity Session

There is something so special about documenting a family as they prepare to welcome a new little one, and this Pittsburgh Maternity Session with the Popowich family was full of sweet moments and plenty of toddler-led adventure.
We met in Peters Township in the South Hills of Pittsburgh for an evening by the lake with mom, dad, and their soon-to-be big sister. Like many two-year-olds, she had her own ideas for how the session should go which is often where the magic happens. Her favorite mission of the evening was finding ducks, and she was determined to keep an eye on them the entire time. She also discovered some mud along the way and was much more interested in exploring than posing, which is completely normal and exactly what I expect with little ones this age.

Rather than forcing perfect smiles or stiff poses, we focused on capturing the family enjoying time together. Watching the ducks, throwing rocks into the lake, and simply being present with one another created some of my favorite images from the session. These authentic moments are often the ones families treasure most years later.
Mom selected a beautiful dress from my client closet, making the planning process simple and stress-free. One of my goals is always to make sessions feel easy so families can focus on enjoying the experience together.

The Popowich family booked my Maternity and Newborn Collection, which means I’ll be seeing them again soon for baby brother’s newborn session. One of the things I love most about this collection is that by the time the newborn session arrives, we’ve already had the opportunity to get comfortable together. Toddlers recognize me, parents know what to expect, and the entire experience feels relaxed and familiar.

I can’t wait to meet baby brother and continue documenting this exciting season for their family. If you’re expecting sometime this year, I would love to capture this season for you.
