Pittsburgh In-Home Newborn Photographer
Welcoming a new baby at home is one of my favorite ways to document this season of life. As a Pittsburgh in-home newborn photographer, I love creating relaxed sessions where families can simply slow down, cuddle their newest little one, and make memories together. This sweet session took place in Shadyside and was the second half of a maternity and newborn collection, so it was wonderful to see this family again and meet their beautiful baby girl.
One of my favorite parts of photographing families more than once is seeing everyone settle into their new season of life. Big brother wasn’t especially interested in having his photo taken that day, which is completely normal. Instead of forcing anything, we followed his lead. He proudly showed me his favorite books and toys, and along the way we were still able to capture a few sweet moments of him with his new baby sister.
Just like every newborn session, we let baby set the pace. We paused whenever she needed to eat, be changed, or spend a few quiet moments wrapped snugly in her mom’s arms. Those little breaks are all part of the story, and they help create the calm, natural images families love.
The family also brought out a beautiful quilt handmade by baby’s great-aunt. Including meaningful heirlooms like this is one of my favorite ways to make your newborn session feel even more personal. These special details help tell your family’s story and often become some of the most treasured photographs.
Because this session took place at home, everything felt comfortable and familiar. Families often worry that their home needs to be perfect, but that simply isn’t the case. Before your session, I recommend opening all the blinds, turning off the lights, and tidying the areas where we’ll be photographing. Rooms with large windows or windows facing north or south usually provide the most beautiful natural light. If there’s a little clutter left behind, don’t worry, I’m always happy to help straighten things up when I arrive. Life with a newborn is beautifully busy, and no one expects a perfectly spotless home.

And of course, pets are always welcome! As an animal lover, I was thrilled when the family’s cat decided to stop by for a quick appearance. Those unexpected moments often become some of my favorites.
