Children's Heirloom Portraits

Capturing precious, timeless snapshots of your child & creating Heirlooms your family will enjoy for generations to come.

Heirloom Portraits are classic, simple pieces of art that can be passed down to future generations. They highlight your child's beauty without any distraction. You may have seen these photos of your parents or grandparents.
Heirloom Portraits require studio lighting to ensure that your child's features are well defined. The studio lighting also allows for consistency in the images so the portraits can be repeated at different ages & for additional siblings.
Heirloom Portrait sessions include a complimentary wardrobe selection. Our wardrobe ranges from 6 months to 8 years. You are welcome to bring your own clothing options as well. During the session we will gently direct your child to ensure we capture a variety of expressions and angles. Following the session you will select your favorite images & artwork for display.

Heirloom Portraits

Heirloom portraits are a Southern Tradition. These studio sessions offer stunning heirloom vignette portraits. They are timeless snapshots of your child, much like the images we have of our parents and grandparents when they were small. Heirloom Portrait Sessions are offered at the studio a few times per month.

Pop-up Events include 4 or more children (including your own). You will receive $50 off your child's session for hosting the Pop-up Event. Simply ask your friends, neighbors, or family members to join you & enjoy a fun day!

the process

Book your session directly via the link below. If you would like to host a Pop-up event, please message me to work out the details!

Session Day will be relaxed. Once you arrive, I will help you select an outfit. I will have studio lights setup & your child will sit on a stool for the photos. Depending on their age, we may need you to sit right next to them. I will take the lead and gently direct your child through the session. Some kids need more help than others and that's completely fine!

You will receive a "soft proofing" gallery within a few weeks. These images will not be fully edited yet. The editing process for just one image is very time consuming. You will select your favorite images and decide if you'd like to purchase additional images. Next, I will get busy editing the images to perfection. You will receive another email with the link to the online gallery with your finalized images. Next, choose the frames and prints you'd like to adorn your walls.

We will not give up on a session. I promise to do everything I can to get the best portrait of your child. There is time built into your session for warming up and taking little breaks as needed. I will have toys to distract your child & I have a few tricks up my sleeve. it's often best not to make a big deal about picture day then allow me to take care of the rest.

Q: What if my child is really difficult when it comes to taking photos?

First, we will say hello and choose an outfit for the session. Your child will get changed. My studio lights will be setup. A stool will be on the floor for your child to sit on. Depending on their age you may need to sit close to them to help them feel comfortable. We will try to keep the mood calm. High energy is great for family photos but these portraits turn out best when children & adults are calm. I will gently guide your child through a series of prompts to get different expressions and angles. Session length can vary a bit by child. If they are cooperative, the session may be pretty quick. There will be 25 minutes allotted per child in case we need it.

Q: What can I expect during the session?

Q: What shoes should my child wear?

Ages 6 months - 12 years. Babies must be sitting up on their own. The most popular age for Heirloom Portraits is 3-4 years old but there truly is no wrong age. Heirloom Sessions are wonderful for documenting milestones. I hope to see your child again as they grow. There are beautiful framed composites that are perfect for 3 or 5 different sessions documenting your child's growth and changes over the years.

Q: What age is best for heirloom portraits?

They can wear what they like. Their shoes won't be in the frame.

Q: Does a Session include all of my kids?

Each Heirloom Portrait session includes just one child. I would love to photograph each of your children, though! Their sessions can be scheduled back to back. I offer a sibling photo together (+$200) for some sessions. The sibling photos are at my discretion and based on time and how the kids are feeling. If you have multiple kids, please check out my Pop-up Events. You would receive a discount on a session if you schedule 4 or more children with me for the same day.
